1 in 6 people will experience a mental illness some time in their lives, therefore mental health support in the workplace and at home is just as relevant as administering first aid in a medical emergency.
In February 2024 the HSE updated their guidelines on Mental Health Awareness in the workplace, they are now emphasising that it is the employers’ responsibility to take account of employees’ mental health in their first-aid needs assessment.
Identifying the signs early will lead to a speedy intervention and support which is essential to a person's wellbeing, and in turn will decrease staff absence and increase productivity in the workplace.
