Our FAQs

Calne based Wiltshire First Aid Training has provided the answers to some FAQs about our company and the course we offer below. If you have any additional questions, not covered, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.

  • My last first aid certificate was approved by the HSE, do the HSE still approve first aid courses?
No, since 1st October 2013 the HSE no longer approves training and qualifications for the purpose of first aid at work. Training organisations who were formerly ‘Approved’ by the HSE can no longer claim to be HSE Approved or use their HSE Approval number. Therefore, the employer will need to undertake varying levels of due diligence into how they select a first aid training provider. All first aid training providers will need to be able – and should be prepared to demonstrate how they satisfy certain criteria set by HSE, which include: • Qualifications expected of trainers and assessors • Monitoring and quality assurance systems • Teaching and standards of first – aid practice • Syllabus content • Certification We satisfy every element the HSE requires and meet the employer’s statutory legal obligation.
  • Do I need to attend a paediatric first aid course by a training provider who is approved by the local authority?
No, since 1st September 2014 childcare providers no longer have to use Local Authority approved training providers. EYFS Framework 2014 states: “Paediatric first aid training must be relevant for workers caring for young children and where relevant, babies,” adding that “providers should take into account the number of children, staff and layout of premises to ensure that a paediatric first aider is able to respond to emergencies quickly” It further clarifies that: “Providers can choose which organisation they wish to provide the training (preferably one with a nationally approved and accredited first aid qualification or one that is a member of a trade body with an approval and monitoring scheme). But the training must cover the course content as for St John Ambulance or Red Cross paediatric first aid training and be renewed every three years” Our paediatric courses satisfy every element of the EYFS Framework and covers the OFSTED recommended syllabus.
  • If I’m not well on the day of the course or I need to cancel, do I get my money back?
You will only get a full refund within 14-days’ notice otherwise you can rearrange to attend a course on another day within a 3-month period.
  • What happens in extreme weather conditions?
We will contact you to let you know if the course is running or not. If we have to cancel, we will arrange another day.
  • If I’m running late for a course, will I still be accepted to attend?
We appreciate candidates may be late however the decision for you to be accepted on the course will depend on how late you are and whether the trainer feels there is enough time for you to catch up. If they feel you have missed too much of the course content, then you will not be able to attend. However, arrangements may be made for you to attend a course on another day. A refund will not be given.
  • I would like to attend a course but cannot afford payment until the end of the month. Can I still attend the course and pay afterwards?
Yes, providing there are spare places, however you will not receive your certificate until payment is received in full.
  • Will you cancel a course?
If there are insufficient numbers to run a viable course, we will cancel and a full refund paid or transfer to another course will be arranged.
  • Do I need to bring anything with me to the course?
You will need to bring ID, a notepad, pen and a packed lunch (if attending a full day course). We advise you to wear comfortable, practical clothing.
  • I have lost my certificate. Can I get a copy?
Yes, we can provide you with either an electronic PDF copy for £6 or a hard copy for £9.60. (Prices include VAT.)
